Midwifery

We believe childbirth is a natural process, and do everything we can to honor that process.

Our nurse-midwives are here to provide healthcare that acknowledges and respects your needs and wishes.

We Empower Women To Trust Their Bodies

Our philosophy is simple: as nurse midwives, we believe childbirth is a natural process, and do everything to follow that process.

All of our midwives are Certified Nurse Midwives—RNs with Master’s Degrees in Nursing and certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board. We’re experts in providing individualized support during labor and birth.  If needed or desired, we can prescribe medication to ensure your comfort.

Services through
birth and beyond

Services Through Birth and Beyond

In our practice, midwives can provide services to you that go well beyond birth, including postpartum care and support, breastfeeding assistance, contraception, well-woman exams and holistic reproductive care.

We provide
continuity of Care

Our midwives are on call and available to you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They do not miss a birth, and take your shared relationship seriously. When there is a sudden change during your labor, our midwives have the medical expertise to evaluate the situation and collaborate with our physicians to maintain a continuity of care for you.

ENSURING A MORE COMFORTABLE
AND REWARDING BIRTH EXPERIENCE

Midwifery Service - Continuous Labor Support

Continuous Labor Support

Research shows that continuous support in labor reduces interventions, the need for pain medication, and Cesarean Sections. Women who give birth with the Eastside midwives can count on that support throughout their labor and birth journey.

Midwifery Service - Physiologic Birth Support

Physiologic Birth Support

Our midwives encourage you to move during labor and suggest position changes to facilitate labor. They believe your body possesses the innate wisdom needed to give birth, and they see their role as facilitators of that process. Tools such as massage, hydrotherapy tubs, and birthing balls provide comfort during contractions and put some momentum behind the birthing process.

Midwifery Service - Complementary Therapies

Complementary Therapies

Music, soft lighting, and aromatherapy are wonderful relaxation techniques available to you to assist you in labor.

Midwifery Service - Skin to Skin Care

Skin to Skin Care

One of the greatest moments in childbirth is the joy of holding your baby after delivery. Our midwives encourage skin to skin contact for moms and babies immediately after birth. Skin to skin care facilitates your babies’ transition to life in the outside world. Your baby will maintain temperatures better, be calmer, and initiate breastfeeding sooner.

Midwifery Service - Low Intervention Settings

Low Intervention Settings

Our health professionals have continuous access to low intervention rooms in St. Johns Hospital and Beaumont Hospital.

Birth Plan / Education

A birth plan is a simple, clear, one-page statement of your preferences for your child’s birth. It’s a great way to help everyone directly involved with your delivery understand what is happening, and to resolve any issues before your big day. As your delivery gets closer, our physicians and nurse midwives will review this plan and the birthing process with you, and answer any questions you may have about this exciting event.

Midwives have the expertise to
provide care for most women and newborns.
