daVinci Robotic Surgery
The surgeons at Eastside Gynecology and Obstetrics are among very few in Oakland and Macomb County who are trained in the use of the daVinci Robotic Surgery System. This innovative surgical method is a superior alternative to traditional open surgery and many conventional laparoscopic procedures – because it offers greater precision, and avoids the use of large incisions.
It is important to understand that daVinci surgeries are not actually performed by independent “robots.” During daVinci surgery the surgeon themself controls robotic instruments to perform complicated and precise surgeries through the small incisions possible, with an unparalleled degree of precision.
Traditional “open” surgery of the pelvic area and reproductive organs typically requires incisions that are long, resulting in visible scarring, greater blood loss, more pain and an extended recovery. But the “mini” incisions used in daVinci robotic surgery are only about 1-2 centimeters long. As a result, the patients’ scars are almost invisible, there is less risk of infection, post-surgical pain is minimized and the patient recovers more rapidly with less downtime.
daVinci robotic surgery can be used to perform a wide variety of female surgeries, including hysterectomy; fibroid and cyst removal (myomectomy); pelvic prolapse repair; sacrocolpopexy; and, resection to remove adhesions, lesions, scars, and displaced tissue.
